Shell Electronic Enrollment

Shell Oil has established a Center of Excellence program in Cardiology for their employees and retirees* with their dependents over the age of 18, who have United Healthcare HSM as their insurance.

The program covers 100% of the costs for screening, care and treatment for cardiac diagnoses as ordered by our Shell CVCP doctors.  Inpatient care must be done at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in the Texas Medical Center with our CVCP Shell doctor as the attending physician.

Who is Eligible for the Program?
  • Shell employee, retirees* and dependents
  • United Healthcare HSM Insurance
*Medicare eligible members are excluded from this program.
*Retirees who are Medicare eligible age do not qualify for the program.

How Does the Program Work?
If you use one of the Shell CVCP cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons* in conjunction with St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in the Texas Medical Center for any inpatient or outpatient care, then Shell pays for your cardiac care at 100%.

Please click HERE to download a current listing of participating Cardiologists and Cardiovascular Surgeons.

*Do not choose a CV surgeon for your screening unless you are in need of screening for cardiac surgery

What Is Covered?
The program covers cardiac screening through care and treatment.  You don’t need a current cardiac diagnosis to have a cardiac screening.  Each screening begins with a consult visit with the cardiologist.  Depending on your age, risk factors and family history, more follow-up tests may be ordered by the cardiologists.

Labs and pharmacy – These are not covered under the Shell COE program but are covered under your normal benefit plans through UHC and the pharmacy plan you may have signed up for under Shell.

Where is Care Provided?
All of the CVCP Shell doctors are located in the Texas Medical Center. Care is provided at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in the Medical Center if you require inpatient or outpatient care.  St. Luke’s facilities in The Woodlands and Sugar Land are not part of the program.

If you suffer a cardiac emergency, go to the nearest ER for help, assessment and treatment.  Do not try to transport yourself to St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital for care.

If your treating doctor and a CVCP doctor decide that you are stable enough for transport, then you can be transferred to St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. This is only a doctor-to-doctor decision.   This is also dependent upon bed availability at the receiving hospital.  All care in the outlying hospital, including ambulance fees, fall under the UHC benefit plan and not the COE program.
